Hole in the Wall
Consignment Shop

The Guilford A Better Chance program is part of a national organization dedicated to furthering the educational opportunities for minority students. The Guilford program provides for up to six young women who live in a residence owned by the program and who attend the local high school. The program is a tax-exempt entity,  supported financially by profits from the Hole in the Wall Consignment Shop, donations to the annual fund, and  several fund-raising events, including the Secret Garden Tour.

The Hole in the Wall is a not-for-profit consignment shop founded in 1968 by the Guilford Human Relations Council in response to requests for help from the inner city. During its first years of operation, the shop’s proceeds were donated to various projects and scholar-ships. Since 1973, all profits have gone to help support the Guilford A Better Chance Program. The shop, staffed by volunteers who reflect the ideals of the program, operates out of a location near the Guilford Green.
